We, Clio Area Skywarn, are to promote a group effort between the National Weather Service and our Community. Our Storm Spotters serves the Community by participating in an organized effort to watch for storms approaching this area and to warn of the formation of tornadoes or other threatening severe weather, such as high wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall.
Even with the use of Doppler Radar there is a need for spotters in the field. The radar can only detect the parent circulation that spawns. The spotters information is needed about whether or not a tornado is actually being produced and to tell its precise location. The role of a storm spotter is to serve as the eyes and ears of the NWS during severe weather situations. The information provided by storm spotters has enabled the NWS to issue more timely and accurate warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods.
We will also Educate people on Severe Weather, Teaching the Hazards and Safety procedures. Please make a Donation or become a Sponsor to help us keep this going. THANKS!
